The flow - marko gavrilovic

“It is quite natural that with impatience as much as curiosity, we have been visiting the latest exhibition by the artist Marko Gavrilovic.

First surprise, the artist – who had accustomed us to his stylized bulls – exchanged his bestiary for urban views of extraordinary modernity.”

First surprise, the artist – who had accustomed us to his stylized bulls – exchanged his bestiary for urban views of extraordinary modernity. And we love it! Like the bull that symbolizes strength and sacrifice, its crushing cities playing on ultra-graphic perspectives, we also question the new place of our humanity, in a world with incessant flows, as invisible as uncontrollable. What place does it have for nature? Our existence seems derisory in the face of these overwhelming modern castles, ready to shatter under the weight of energy.
The artist’s paintings look like the stained glass of tomorrow, an exploded vision of our humanity, projected in shadows in the heart of hybrid cities. While approaching the works, you will discover an unsuspected world at the heart of these forms of geometric appearance.
A shark, books, a tunnel, the cities of Marko Gavrilovic are unlike any other, and yet are a sum of it all. New York buildings, London bridges, Shanghai towers or an alter-ego of the Arc de Triomphe will be recognized. At the top of these buildings, silhouettes in balance, anonymous and fragile, ready to do anything to emerge from this crushing urbanism. The city seems to have stopped in full burst, an urban explosion with strong lines and vibrant colors, like so many fragments of our time. His light sculptures take the appearance of contemporary stained glass, one would swear by looking at these electric light tones that light pieces are in fact canvases. And this is also the other surprise, even the revelation of this new exhibition: our painter proves to be a true sculptor of light.
In a true sense of the term, with beautiful light sculptures, which take everything from design, through bursting geometric waves, intarsia lines to colorful shapes this was a discovery that conquered us.
The Flow will be on view until the end of June 2019.
